The Big Walk
At the start of the walk. At Suntec City with my toastmaster friend from SMU, An from Vietnam
Lucky doggies in pram - Pearl and Snowy. They don't walk in the Big Walk but enjoy a ride in a baby pram!
The most creative and popular walker - all dressed with the message of "Keep the earth green!"
Ann, the sweet Vietnamese student, posing at the Marina Barrage.
I was determined to get well faster so that I could participate in the Big Walk as arranged. I did not want to disappoint An by not turning up. My colleague, Grace Tan, was also participating. Luckily it was only a 5km walk, not the usual 10km walk.
Thank God for the lovely weather - bright and sunny, with a little bit of breeze. Everyone was in high spirit as not many of us had the foggiest idea that we actually have a reservoir right in the heart of the city! What a neat and clever idea!
When we reached the finishing point, we were jubilant. An and I stopped now and then to take pictures. 20,000 participants! What a feat for the organisers! The crowd was orderly as we walked through the bridge linking the Stadium and Tanjong Rhu and someone started singing, "London Bridge is Falling Down!" We laughed, but in the back of our minds some of us must have wondered if the bridge could carry the weight of so many walkers!
There were five queues of participants waiting for the bus to take us back to Suntec City where a concert was held. Children were given free pop corns and a chance to try their hands at rock climbing.!
What a great day of interesting events! My tenants, Anul, Avinesh and Jasmin, were somewhat relieved that I had come home in one piece! It rained quite heavily in the afternoon just as I had predicted. What a blessing!
