Le Nonya Cooking School

Kudos to Chen Junyi for his brilliant ideas in his letter published on page 5 of the New Paper on 20th January, 2009. What a great idea to start a Nonya Cooking School!

After the Little Nonya was aired, many of my friends and colleagues asked me to teach them how to cook some Nonya dishes.

Perhaps to help increase our country's income and job opportunities, Media Corp should explore the possibility of introducing the Little Nonya to viewers in Europe, Australia, America and all over the world. I am sure they would receive the show as well as our viewers in South East Asia. Many would be intrigued by the cooking, sewing of Nonya outfits and beaded shoes. This will encourage people to visit Singapore to learn as well as to visit interesting places and learn more about Singapore's unique racial population and diverse culture.

We would not charge exorbitant fees so as to make it affordable for the average working executive. If visitors have more time, they may want to learn other ethnic cooking eg. Chinese, Indian, Malay, etc. We can offer an attractive package and hopefully, this will help to increase our tourists' arrival at Changi Airport!

Perhaps Les Amis might explore the possibility of conducting some French cooking courses from time to time, so that people in the likes of Mr. Tan Yong Soon would not have to travel to France to learn. To become good cooks, one does not need to learn from a classy establishment. It is like paying for a Rolex when a Seiko would do....at the end, both watches tell the time. More importantly is how the wearer takes care of his watch and develop his passion and skill for cooking. Above all, to be hospitable and sharing.

Cheers! Bon appetit! Buon appetito! Swadish khana! Makanan sedap!
